Seasons
Seasons Aren't Just For Nature
What is your favorite season of the year? Mine is fall, although we don't see much change here in Florida until well into the holidays. This year was different, though. Honestly, it was extreme. We had multiple freezes through fall and winter, hard ones, and they destroyed many of our mature fruiting plants and wiped out tender vegetables in the garden. Then the spring dry season began, because Florida doesn't get April showers that bring May flowers. We get April drought that brings May heat, and it has also been extreme this year, with wildfires burning across the state. The experts state "worst in 25 years." Great.
I like seasons because they are predictable...until they aren't. It seems the same in life. I am just coming up for air after a busy season of service, all while dealing with frustrating obstacles in other areas of life. It has been anything but predictable. The author of Ecclesiastes recognized this:
"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."
This passage doesn't say that everything will occur in a predictable manner, but seems to suggest that there is a purpose to all of it.
Are you in a new season of parenting, employment, or personal growth? Are you picking up the pieces of unexpected "weather changes" in your life? You are not alone, and purpose can come from the recovery effort. As we cut away dead trees and plants on the farm, we are rethinking layout and productivity. Before we enter the blazing heat of summer, we are doing infrastructure improvements to our property. (That's the new chicken coop going up, thanks to the amazing talents of a good friend.) We are even making time to REST, just like Frodo on the porch swing.
Learn your lessons, make the improvements, give yourself grace, and embrace the season.
Peace,
Tracy
